Requirement Elicitation Phase

To collect the requirements for our product, we decided to do on-field observations to document the problems that cyclists face during their daily trips within the city of Uppsala, we also included our own experiences and an online survey. We noticed the following issues :

  1. Impractical and unsafe to keep tracking of the directions manually (using GPS and maps) while riding the bike.
  2. No effective bike locating or tracking mechanism in case of loss or theft.
  3. Reaching  for your phone to answer a call or send messages while riding is very dangerous. A hands free approach such as voice recognition might be a good solution.
  4. Cyclists who are interested in tracking fitness-related information (like calories, average speed, traveled distance) usually need to use separate mobile apps from the GPS ones, which makes it inconvenient to switch between apps during biking.
  5. Not well-developed cyclist roads. Some bike roads (mostly on the countryside) are pretty dirty/muddy (after rain) this makes circulation difficult.
  6. Bike theft: Some locks are easily violated, lights and other bike accessories can also be easily snatched.
  7. Lack of directional lights: Pointing direction with hands can be unsafe and is often ignored.

As the results shows, there are several problems related to navigation and security facing the cyclists .Trying to solve the previous issues , we came up with the idea of developing mobile application that is compatible with a wearable glasses (Google Glasses) , and tracking stickers to locate the bike in case of loss or robbery.

A (very) short survey about bicycles

We wanted to elicit more information form our potential actors. In order to achieve that we created an online survey using Google Forms. We got feedback from 141 different users around the world. The link to our survey: https://goo.gl/forms/Dtz8YteBMEHVSRzs1

Here’s a summary of the results we found.
